The dancing plague occurred in Strasbourg(France) in ancient Rome in the summer of 1518. A woman called Troffea began to dance fervently in the street from morning till night. Within a week, 34 people were involved. A month later, the number of dancers reached 400. These dancers kept dancing until they died of exhaustion. This plague caused a great panic, and later they were sent to the holy land to be baptized, which relieved their symptoms. Modern scientists believe that such behavior is a mental disorder caused by too much psychological stress.
